Fundamental Rules to Write Roman Numerals 1 to 100

We need to follow some fundamental rules while writing Roman numerals from 1 to 100 and more.

Note that: M > D > C > L > X > V > I

Rule 1: When a smaller letter comes after a bigger letter, the letters are added. For example: XV, X > V, so XV = X + V = 10 + 5 = 15.

Rule 2: When a smaller letter comes before a bigger letter, the letters are substracted. For example: XL, X < L, so XL = L – X = 50 – 10 = 40.

Rule 3: When a letter is repeated multiple times, the value of that letter is added. For example: CCC = C + C + C = 100 + 100 + 100 = 300

Rule 4: The same letter cannot be used more than three times in succession. V, L, and D cannot be repeated, they come only once.
